This spring, I had the honor of designing and creating a baby dedication dress for some friends. What made the project even more fun, they gave me material from her mother's wedding dress to design with! I think I can safely say this is my favorite design to date. It's a very simple style, fitting to their lifestyle. Welcome to Baby and congratulations to the new parents! I started my design using the Little Geranium baby dress pattern (*Pattern designed by Rae Hoekstra of made-by-rae.com. I am a licensed seller. *Photo from shop.made_by_rae.com) Isn't it sweet? Since the material was quite heavy (a velour), I opted for a muslin lining instead of the self-lining suggested by the pattern. The base of the dress came together fairly quickly, and then it was time for the fun part - lace embellishment. The original wedding gown had a beautiful lace yoke, which when I placed it over the dress, fit perfectly as a back piece, collar, and even a suggestion of little sleeves! I finished it all by hand, keeping the stitching as invisible as possible on both front and back.
