I just finished up this costume from Game of Thrones. It was a ton of fun to work on, and a very different style from what I've been doing most recently. There are three major pieces: the robe, the stole, and the thin belt. I constructed my own pattern, using a ready made jacket sleeve pattern as a base. Sleeves can fit awkwardly unless they are constructed with great precision - I find using a ready made pattern, at least to work off of, most helpful. I found the robe fabric in the home decorating section, a great place to look for heavier cloth and bolder patterns. Below, setting in the collar with a little ease, and a look at the inside of the sleeve. Instead of trying to french seam the armhole, which gets bulky, I trimmed the seams and finished them with bias tape. The stole pattern took a little more time to construct. First, I made a pattern for the lining and interfacing, then expanded it to create the pleats. The back, shoulders, and chest were interfaced and lined, and the bottom sections were just self lined - that way, if they flip around at all when it's being worn, you don't see any lining fabric. I topstitched a thin gold cord on the edges of the pleats with a zig-zag stitch. It's subtle, but it mimics the almost beaded look found on the original costume. The original costume had a tiny silver bird closure - as that would have been rather pricey and time consuming to find, I used a larger silver button in a similar shape. And here, the finished pieces!

I left off as I was starting on the waistband and skirt. This chiffon is incredibly lightweight, which makes for a lovely summer dress, and a whole lot of care in construction. Once the skirt pieces are french seamed, they are gathered and pinned into the waistband - here, between two lining layers for a better finish and more stability. I then basted the seam to keep everything straight before sewing it into place, and finished it by hand. To finish it off, I basted, then sewed in, an invisible zipper and finished the hem - the lining on my machine and the chiffon by hand. It's finished! The draping in these photos is a little off kilter due to my dress form, which is a little tilted. But it's been so much fun to wear!
