The bunad update, as promised!
This section of the project took me the longest to complete, as it included some of the most detailed fitting work. I've worked on quite a number of structured vests and bodices before, although this one was a little bit different, as it was constructed with an extra heavy muslin lining to provide structure, instead of interfacing and/or boning. The pattern that came with the kit was made to be very basic, so it would be adjusted to fit almost any body type - perfect for a perfectly-fitting custom garment, but also much more of a challenge just to get a proper pattern made. Just finishing the skirt, and the outfit will be complete!

A few mini updates for you! First off, some adorable newborn clothes I got to make for a friend - two little skirts and a matching headband. It's hard to see in the pictures, but I used a coordinating contrast color for the topstitching. Little things are just so much cuter!
And finally, a (long overdue) personal project - a new sunglasses case. It has a flannel exterior and cotton interior, with a layer of stiff felt and quilt batting to protect the glasses. My favorite part is the bound buttonhole at the top, with a stray button I found from my Grandma. The first picture is the binding before making the slit and turning it under to stitch. I love how it finishes to such a neat edge!
In other news, I just finished up the bunad vest today, so watch for an update soon! |
